The Days When You Don’t Feel Like Writing

Welcome to Twitter Treasure Thursday! Today’s gem comes from Chuck Wendig’s blog, Terribleminds: “The Days When You Don’t Feel Like Writing“. I thought this was a great post to share with you, because all of us–even the most passionate writers–sometimes struggle to find the motivation to write. Personally, I’ve been struggling a lot lately. But, as you’ll read in this article, all of us have to write even when we don’t want to. In fact, those are the days it’s most important.

Even if it’s nothing, even if it’s crap, you’ve got to carve the words onto the page. Even if it’s only a hundred words, even if you only get to move the mountain by a half-an-inch, you’re still nudging the needle, still keeping that story-heart beating, still proving to yourself and to the world that this is who you are and what you do.

  1. Ok Jen, I’ve been waiting all week to hear about the NYC Midnight Challenge. Did I miss your post about it??? Or are you not allowed to talk about it while it’s still ongoing? I’m dying to know what genre you got. Was it the dreaded Romantic Comedy??? Lol

    1. Oops! Sorry, lol…I’ve been dropping updates about the contest on my Facebook page, but not here. I ended up getting assigned suspense, not rom-com (woo!). The subject had to be a wedding, and a key character had to be a chef…I’m planning to do a full post on my experience next week. Let’s just say it hasn’t been as easy as I thought it’d be. In fact, I’m still working on it. It’s due Saturday, so I’m quickly running out of time. (dun, dun, dun…) 🙂

      1. Thank you! My first draft turned into more of a drama than suspense, so it’s been a LOT of rewriting…And the conflict I chose to base the story off of is much darker than I usually go, so it’s been tough emotionally….I don’t know why I do this to myself sometimes!!! lol…I should be able to post the actual story next week, in addition to a full explanation about it. Thanks!
